*** TRAINING TIP OF THE WEEK ***

Today we are going to give you some tips about stays.

When do you start your young dog training to stay?
Don't ask a puppy to stay straight away, it's a very boring behaviour for a full of energy puppy. You will risk frustration or bad habit on your stays.

What is stay for your dog?
Stay it's just a duration in time of a sit or a down. You can build up duration first without any distance to allow your dog to settle into the behaviour and build up the time that your dog can "stay" in that behaviour;
Once you have build duration and you know you can leave your dog in that position for longer time without rewarding every so often, you can add distance.

Make sure you are not rushing through any part of your stay if you want a reliable behaviour and you want your dog to be confident.

Don't recall your dog to you at the end of the stay, go back to your dog and reward the behaviour before give them a release cue.

Release cue is also important, it will teach your dog when they are allowed to release, the behaviour will make much more sense to them!
