How does the cold effect our dogs?

*** TRAINING TIP OF THE WEEK***

How does the cold effect our dogs?

Even though some breeds that we have as pets are working breeds, doesn't mean that they are used to be outside in the cold. Dogs that live in kennels or spend a lot of time outside get acclimatised to lower temperatures but dogs that live in the house with us are not used to it.

Some dogs have enough coat on them to keem warm but short hair breeds don't have it so we need to help them to stay cold. Why is it important?
Have you been trying to spend a day outside not dressed enough? At the end of the day your muscles will be stiff because you shaked all day try to stay warm (it's a natural muscle reaction to cold).

Also very young puppies and older dogs need some protection against cold and wet conditions exaclty like humans!

Arthritis happens to dogs as well, don't leave an old dog too wet and cold. Provide them with a raincoat if they spend a lot of time outside or make sure to dry them out after a long wet walk.

If your dog doesn't go out in the cold you can't force him/her but you can try to do short walks with a warm coat on and try to keep them active during the walk by running or playing.
